Zespri: Statement From The Chairman
The Chairman of ZESPRI International, Craig Greenlees, has confirmed that the Company’s Chief Executive, Tim Goodacre, will give evidence to the Cole Inquiry into the Australian Wheat Board’s involvement in the United Nations Oil-For-Food programme.
Mr Greenlees said Mr Goodacre had advised the ZESPRI Board that, as former senior manager of the AWB, he was ready and willing to assist the Inquiry in any way he could; although he has been out of that organisation for three years, having taken up his current his position with ZESPRI in January 2003.
“Mr Goodacre advised the Board last November (2005) that as a former AWB manager he thought it likely he would be asked to give evidence to the proposed Inquiry. He said he was willing to do so if required. Prior to this advice to the Board, he had advised me personally of this matter in my role as Chairman.
“At the time Mr Goodacre made it clear to the Board that personally he did not foresee anything of concern regarding the inquiry in respect of his own actions while working at the AWB.”
Mr Greenlees said that Mr Goodacre would not be discussing any matters relating to the Inquiry prior to giving evidence, and that this was also the wish of the Board.
“He has retained a lawyer to assist in this process, and any costs in relation to this will be met by Mr Goodacre himself. I have agreed that he take leave for the period he is required to give evidence, as this is not a matter that relates to his current role or business of ZESPRI .
“Given the professional manner in which he has dealt with this matter so far, Mr Goodacre continues to have the full support of the ZESPRI Group Limited Board and the company.”
