Ford And Rockgas to Attempt World Record for New Zealand
AUCKLAND, New Zealand, 3 February 2006
Ford and Rockgas will attempt to drive New Zealand into the record books when they attempt a LPG world endurance record on February 22-23, 2006 in the Ford-Rockgas LPG Endurance Challenge.
A team of four professional drivers from Ford Racing Experience will endeavour to see how far an LPG vehicle can be driven in 24 hours, along the way setting interim records at the 6, 12 and 18 hour marks at Ruapuna Raceway near Christchurch.
"There is currently no world record for LPG endurance, so we are virtually guaranteed achieving a world record for New Zealand. Moreover, in this time of rising fuel prices, we hope this event will highlight LPG as a cheap, clean and user-friendly alternative fuel source," said Mr Keith Sharp, Director of Ford Racing Experience.
"The world record will be recognised by the FIA, which is the world governing body of motorsport in Paris," said Mr Sharp.
