Work begins on domestic terminal precinct roads
Work has begun on improvements to roads around the domestic terminal precinct at Auckland Airport. The forecourt of the Qantas domestic terminal will be altered to improve its usability.
Airport chief executive, Don Huse, says, “The project involves increasing the size of the Qantas domestic forecourt and simplifying the layout. Once completed, there will be more pre-chartered and free-flow taxi rank and shuttle space, two new coach bays, a wider and straighter pedestrian crossing and generally a more user-friendly forecourt.
“These improvements aim to reduce congestion and provide a better level of service to forecourt users than currently exists.”
This latest civil work runs alongside the construction of a new multi-level, 850-bay carpark being constructed in the domestic terminal precinct. This will be connected to the forecourt between the two terminals by a covered bridge.
The 12-week programme will be complete by mid-May, the multi-level car park is expected to be open to the public in June.
