Toshiba launches high-definition Qosmio four-in-one entertainment unit
Auckland, 1 March 2006: The New Zealand office of Toshiba (Australia) Pty. Limited Information Systems Division (ISD) today launched the new version of its Qosmio four-in-one entertainment unit today, upgrading the combined television, stereo audio player, DVD and notebook PC with an integrated high-definition (HD) digital TV tuner.
The new Qosmio G30 replaces the previous high-end G20 model. By integrating a high quality Digital Video Broadcasting TV tuner (DVB-T), Qosmio owners can receive standard or high definition digital television broadcasts, which offer better reception, a widescreen 16:9 picture-quality, high-quality audio, a greater number and choice of channels, and program guide channels. The Qosmio G30 also provides a standard analogue tuner integrated for users not in areas with digital coverage.
“The commercial release of a high-definition digital tuner within the Qosmio proves that this technology is becoming the standard,” said Mark Whittard General Manager, Australia and New Zealand, Toshiba ISD.
“For those people who want the most intense entertainment experience – the crispest and brightest picture, the clearest digital audio, the largest capacity storage to hold HD video and TV, music, digital photos, and the latest games – all in the one mobile device, the Qosmio is the ultimate choice. Whether it’s the Commonwealth Games, the Soccer World Cup or big screen cinema, the Qosmio experience makes it like being there,” he added.
Colloquially known as an audio-visual notebook, the
Qosmio G30 enables people to:
- Watch and record* digital
or analogue television, with the ability to pause and
scroll live TV (time slip viewing), on an ultra-bright (two
lamp) 17-inch widescreen display with 72 per cent colour
saturation, or take into the living room and plug in via
HDMI to a HD large screen;
- Watch TV and DVDs or listen
to your music. With the Toshiba Express Media Player
function, users do not have to boot the Windows operating
system (as on other Windows Media Center edition PCs) to
watch DVDs or listen to music. They can instead have instant
access to multimedia content through their remote control
and a one-touch button as on a traditional television or
stereo;
- The Ultimate Sound Experience on surround-sound
bass-reflection Harmon Kardon® speakers with SRS tru-sound
technology. More significantly, the Qosmio G30 introduces
the world’s first 1-Bit digital amplifier in a notebook
computer for unprecedented sound quality.
- Access and
use computing applications and latest games via a top-end
multimedia notebook with tri band wi-fi and enhanced
data-rate Bluetooth functionality, for connection to other
devices such as mobile phones, wireless projectors and other
PCs.
Theatre-quality video and audio
Toshiba has
upgraded the audio and video quality of its Qosmio
AV-notebooks by introducing Dolby home theatre technology
and newly-released nVidia GeForce 7600 series GPU to work
with the high quality Qosmio video engine.
Latest available performance and power
To provide the best in speed and performance, the Qosmio G30 incorporates Intel’s new dual-core processor, Intel Core Duo T2400 with 2.0 GHz of dual-core power, plus dual 100GB SATA (total 200 GB) hard disk drives capable of running a RAID to protect valuable memories and data. In addition to mirroring (RAID 1), Toshiba has included a utility that automatically checks the integrity of data on each drive and corrects any corrupted data on either drive, without user intervention. The Qosmio G30 is also designed to be compatible with Microsoft Windows Vista.
