Rural Women - Achievement Awards 2005

Achievement Awards 2005

Awards Information

Presented By Governor General Dame Silvia Cartwright
At Government House On 15 March 2006

Women who have played an outstanding role working for their rural communities are being honoured with a new Achievement Award established to mark the 80th anniversary of Rural Women New Zealand (RWNZ).

The Awards will be presented to seven RWNZ members on 15 March at Government House, by our patron, Dame Silvia Cartwright.

“The excellent quality of the nominations received was inspiring,” says RWNZ president, Sherrill Dackers. “Many rural women work quietly behind the scenes, giving years of dedicated voluntary service. With this new award, we want to recognise excellence by RWNZ members in strengthening rural communities.”

The seven regional winners of the Awards were selected from 32 nominees, all of whom provided a CV and supporting references showing three different ways in which they had strengthened their rural communities.

The nominations were judged by Mary Bourke, Mayor of South Taranaki District Council, and Tom Lambie, Chancellor of Lincoln University.

The judges commented that all of the nominations reflected the huge amount of voluntary service that the women managed to cram into their productive lives.
