Commission Urged To Provide Rapid Decision

ISPs Urge Commerce Commission To Provide Rapid Decision On Real Broadband

"New Zealand's Internet Service Providers wholeheartedly support Slingshot & ihug's application to the Commerce Commission for full speed broadband & urge the Commission to rapidly issue a determination for real broadband" says ISPANZ Vice President Scott Bartlett.

A number of ISPANZ members have indicated they would join with ihug & Slingshot, however the high barriers to engage in the current regulatory process mean that they have been forced to support from the sidelines.

ISPs are concerned that if they sign up to Telecom's latest commercial broadband offer they will be precluded from supporting any determination.

A clear indication that the playing field is not level in New Zealand is that Telecom have been able to reduce their retail prices but hold the prices ISPs are required to pay Telecom. This comes just after the announcement that Telecom missed the government's wholesale broadband target, & with the minister now considering the consequences.

There has never been a more important time for this government to take action to fix New Zealand's diabolical broadband situation. ISPANZ members anticipate a fast & favourable result to Slingshot & ihug's bold move.
