ITC helps Auckland Welcome New Students

Auckland recently welcomed more than 1000 new international students at a civic ceremony at Auckland’s Town Hall.

The students, who will be studying at high schools, language schools, private training establishments and tertiary institutions within the Auckland region, experienced a powhiri and kapahaka as part of the civic welcome.

This event provided an opportunity to meet students from other schools, enjoy cultural entertainment and learn from other international students.

For Aucklanders, it was our chance to say "thank you" and "welcome" to international students who have chosen Auckland as their study destination. International education is an important part of Auckland’s economy, with nearly 50,000 students studying in the Auckland region and an economic benefit of more than $1 billion per year.

Again, The International Travel College (ITC) ensured that student volunteers were on hand to offer help and assistance to Study Auckland, the event organisers. Fourteen students from the College helped Study Auckland meet and greet these new students. After all, the ITC students are studying travel and tourism, so they appreciate how important events like this are.

“We had an awesome time” said Lena, a student at ITC, “it was fun to meet so many people from all over the world that have chosen to study here in Auckland, our home.” “We thought it was a great opportunity to be involved with the event, for many of us, it is our first taste of work experience in the tourism industry and we loved it!” she said.
