Escape with Lotto

Media Release 4 April 2006

For Immediate Release

ESCAPE WITH LOTTO

Lotto's Easter promotion gives players the chance to escape to some land far, far away, says NZ Lotteries Deputy Chief Executive Warren Salisbury.

"Those players who purchase a Lotto Triple Dip between 2 and 15 April 2006 are in to win one of 20 ultimate travel prizes with $50,000 travel and $50,000 cash to spend," says Mr Salisbury.

Winners of this incredible prize will have the freedom to choose where they want to go, who they want to go with, and what they'll do when they get there.

"And what makes this prize even more tempting is that there is no set time limit for when this prize must be redeemed*. Winners can plan their own travel, from when they leave, to how they get there, to who will go with them," says Mr Salisbury.

And what could be done with $100,000 worth of travel and spending money?

We asked the Lotto and Big Wednesday presenters what their ultimate travel adventure would be. Here's what they had to say:

"I would follow the New Zealand cricket team around for their whole West Indies tour, making the most of the sun. I'd have to stop in New York on my way back to do some shopping too."
(Sonia Gray, Big Wednesday Presenter)

"I'd travel from one end of Africa to the other in a massive four wheel drive – like a Hummer or something. I'd deck it out with heaps of camping stuff and drive from the tip to the bottom. I've already spent quite a bit of time in Africa and I can speak Swahili so it would be cool to talk to heaps of the African people".
(Phil Vaughan, Big Wednesday Presenter)

I'd have to say Europe. I'd travel through France and Italy and take a privately chartered boat through the Mediterranean. I'd really like to visit the Champaign district of France and I'd love to go back to Santorini and visit all the beach cafés. I'd also really like to visit South America, maybe Brazil. I'd have to take friends and family with me and we'd stay with lots of different people…It wouldn't be just about seeing things, but about sharing an experience".
(Hilary Timmins, Lotto Presenter)

'It would be a very cultural experience. I'd retrace the journey of my people from Hawaii through the Islands and take the whole clan. I'd cap it of with a trip to Vegas."
(Russell Harrison, Lotto Presenter)

"I'd definitely be gone for a while! I'd take my time travelling around Europe. And I'd definitely have to go to New York because I've never been to the States - I'd take my mother for a shopping trip. Then I'd have to take my husband somewhere with long sandy beaches, and relax with a good book and a cocktail in hand."
(Kylee King-Turner, Lotto Presenter)

"On 15 April, all 20 prizes must be won," says Mr Salisbury. "Players should make their first destination their lottery outlet today."

* Prize must be claimed within12 months of 15th April Lotto Draw
