Ford Continues to Court Netball New Zealand

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, 28 April 2006

Following the Silver Ferns' gold medal success at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, Ford Motor Company has proudly announced the renewal of its exciting sponsorship of the world's leading netballers.

The sponsorship deal positions Ford as the official vehicle supplier to the World Champion Silver Ferns and Netball New Zealand, and continues to build on the association that some Ford dealers already have with local netball franchises.

"Netball is the number one sport in New Zealand for females of all ages - both in terms of viewing and participation - and we are thrilled to continue this opportunity to partner with such a dynamic and growing organisation from the grass roots through to the elite international level," said Corporate Sponsorship Manager, Jen Ingleby.

"This partnership is a great alignment with vehicles such as Fiesta and Focus, as these two models display many of the characteristics that are desirable in a world class netballer - both are nimble and athletic, dynamic, innovative, inspirational and above all stylish," said Ms. Ingleby.

Three of the Silver Ferns, Anna Scarlett, Maria Tutaia and Casey Williams, took time out of their busy schedules last week to meet some other Ford stars at last week's Ford V8 Superbreakfast including 2005 Australian V8 Supercar Champion Russell Ingall.

"We swapped some netball tips with the drivers, and they showed us how to change a tyre!" said Silver Fern defender Anna Scarlett.

"On Friday, I jumped in the car with Glenfords Racing's driver Marcus Marshall for a hot lap - it was absolutely amazing!"

The Silver Ferns and Netball New Zealand are the latest addition to Ford's family of sponsorship properties, which include amongst others World Champion Sarah Ulmer, the All Blacks, all New Zealand Super 12 rugby teams, Two Year old horse racing and Equestrian, Ford Advanced Drivers School and Variety - The Children's Charity.
