Auction of Rarely Available Brunner
Waterfront ‘Talk of Town’
For Release: 15 May
2006
Achieving $880,000 ‘under the hammer’ at auction
for a four bedroom upmarket one year old home in Lake
Brunner last week has been the “talk of the town” confirming
this West Coast lake, only two and a half hours drive from
Christchurch, as ‘the’ place to have a weekend retreat.
John McFadden, Business Owner of Harcourts Papanui (Christchurch) which marketed the property, believed it to be a record price paid for this type of property, setting a new benchmark in Lake Brunner.
The Iveagh Bay property on 151 Cashmere Bay road offered a number of special features. Along with stunning expansive lake views, its most special feature was the waterfront location, as it is thought to be the first waterfront dwelling to sell in this new subdivision.
Marketed by Harcourts sales consultant, Mary Turnbull as having “strong architectural design with contemporary luxury”, the property is situated opposite the boat ramp, and featured open plan living, gas fire and two large outdoor decks.
Mary Turnbull confirmed most buying enquiry came from Christchurch, many who had existing Lake Brunner ‘baches’ and were looking to upgrade to more upmarket weekend retreats. She added with many Lake Brunner properties now “weekenders”, prices had seen phenomenal growth over the last couple of years with buyers attracted by easy access, close proximity and great recreational facilities.
The auction was held on Wednesday 10 May with Harcourts Auctioneer, Phil McGoldrick opening the bidding at $670,000, with spirited bidding eventually taking the property to $880,000 under the hammer.
