Celebrate winter living with NZ House & Garden

NZ House & Garden is encouraging New Zealanders to fill their homes with warmth, texture and colour to make this winter a decadent affair.

“Our homes should be warm and inspiring during winter, brightening up our lives and lifting our moods. We spend more time in our houses during this season than any other time of the year, so we need beautiful spaces that will uplift and inspire us,” says editor Michal McKay.

“June is the perfect time to enjoy the pleasure of winter living – warm and cosy fireplaces, gorgeous rugs and fabrics, and delicious hearty food.”

Examples of homes that showcase brilliant colours and textures are featured in the June issue of NZ House & Garden, including the London home of a Kiwi film designer, a converted but colourful church in Picton, and a clay house in Piha that has been brought to life by its owner.

The latest issue also takes a look at the Moroccan ethnic influence on patterns, colours, and textures, and how these can transform a room into an exotic paradise. Mary Gilliatt offers readers advice on using texture and patterns to maximum effect – and taking courage in both hands to achieve spectacular results. And Radio NZ chief executive Peter Cavanagh invites readers into his Favourite Room, showing off his eclectic taste in design.

No winter would be complete without delicious food to warm the soul, and the June issue presents a selection of cold weather treats – including eggnog, individual baked alaskas, soups, and fork and finger food that can be easily eaten by the fire.
