Kapiti Scoops Ice Cream Awards

Kapiti Scoops Ice Cream Awards

Kapiti Fine Foods' lemon meringue pie ice cream scooped the Ice Cream Manufacturers' supreme award in Nelson last night.

The annual awards, held this year at the Rutherford Heritage Hotel, saw 185 entries compete across nine categories including standard vanilla, standard chocolate, premium ice cream and kids’ choice.

Kapiti’s lemon meringue pie ice cream took out the premium category award before going on to win the overall golden gong.

This supreme award was the cherry on top for Fonterra Brands with another of its brands – Tip Top – picking up the award for the best standard chocolate ice cream. This success follows Tip Top’s supreme award in 2005 for its Saucy as Crazy for Caramel.

In addition to Fonterra Brands’ two category wins and the overall prize the Company picked up 25 silver and 7 gold awards.

The panel of judges used international judging guidelines with each ice cream being awarded the maximum possible marks of 100 from which points are deducted for imperfections in appearance, body and texture, flavour and melting defects. The kids’ choice award was judged by a group of extremely lucky primary school children.

Fonterra Brands General Manager of Marketing, Andrew Smith, says the trio of awards was a great result for Fonterra.

“Everyone at Fonterra is delighted at the performance of our two ice cream brands, Kapiti and Tip Top. Both have a long history of doing well at these awards and we have no doubt that there will be plenty of success in the future as we continue to look for new ways to keep our customers happy.”
