Macho Meets Glam In Forestry Awards

There will be nary a little gold statue, male or otherwise, in sight at the FITEC National Training Awards in Rotorua tomorrow night.

Instead, most winners will be accepting a deluxe hi-vis vest in fluoro-green and the harvesting trainee of the year will receive a 22in chainsaw from Stihl.

Many individuals and company representatives from the male-dominated forestry industry will be attending the macho-meets-glam function to celebrate the best Modern Apprentices, trainees and companies commitment to training.

John Blakey, FITEC chief executive officer says, Recognising the professionalism and expertise within the forestry industry is part of what the National Training Awards are all about.

All of our 2006 finalists have distinguished themselves as exceptional in their relevant categories and have made a contribution to their workplace and/or to the industry beyond that required by their job.

Recognising their achievements through the Awards is one way of thanking them.

In 2006, eighteen awards will be presented, from a total of 47 individuals and companies short-listed as finalists. Winners will be announced at the 1 June awards ceremony in the Rotorua Convention Centre.
