Sky Signs Broadcast Deal For World Rowing Championships

Further to Rowing New Zealand’s successful bid to host the 2010 World Rowing Championships in New Zealand, SKY Television announced today that it will be host broadcaster to the event.

SKY Television also confirmed that it has signed a deal with the International Rowing Federation and Rowing New Zealand to broadcast LIVE coverage of the 2006 World Rowing Championship in August. The 2006 World Rowing Championship will see four New Zealand championship crews defend their titles at Eton.

The deal also includes all televised World Cup events, including coverage of the next two cup regattas in Poznan, Poland and Lucerne, Switzerland, from now until 2009.

SKY will also continue its coverage of the two big regattas in New Zealand – the National Championships and Secondary Schools Maadi Cup Regatta.

SKY’s Director of Programming - Sport, Kevin Cameron, says “SKY is delighted to acquire the rights to these events and further our commitment to New Zealand Rowing. New Zealand has never had such success in terms of world rowing than it had in Japan last year with our women’s winning twins, our women’s Coxless Pair, our Champion Single Sculler, Mahe Drysdale and the Men’s Pair, all winning Gold. ”
