XC70 Diesel gets power boost
19 June 2006
Volvo's
sport's activity vehicle, the XC70 has been given a power
boost with the introduction of the latest version of the
five cylinder turbo diesel motor which is already fitted to
the XC90.
Along with the 136 kWs engine comes the latest six speed geartronic automatic gearbox and all wheel drive transmission.
The outgoing XC70 D5 LE model had a 120 kWs motor and five speed gearbox.
The revised engine, which complies with the Euro 4 emission control regulations, provides 13 percent more power, but more importantly the torque increases by 17.6 percent from 340 Nm to 400 Nm, which is available between 2000 rpm and 2750 rpm.
This provides strong driveability in the rev range that most drivers use most of the time. Open road overtaking is made easier with the readily available torque for instant acceleration.
And with more than 200 mm of ground clearance, the XC70 D5s low revs lugging power is also ideal for light off road work and getting to the less accessible parts of New Zealand on our back country tracks and gravel roads.
The XC70 is an ideal alpine area vehicle with the ground clearance allowing it to traverse snow covered roads.
While the power train of the XC70 D5 LE has been changed, the car's high level of specification and standard equipment remains the same.
It comes with a full leather interior and electrically adjustable and heated front seats. There is climate control air conditioning, an integrated GSM phone and an 11 speaker sound system with 6 stack CD with the phone and sound system controls on the steering wheel.
Cruise control, a trip computer and information centre are standard. Other features include an alarm and immobiliser linked to the central locking.
The rear view mirrors are heated to get rid of early morning frost and can be retracted to negotiate narrow garage doors and the like. The bi-xenon headlights come with high pressure washers and there are also fog lights.
Like any Volvo, safety is a high priority on the XC70 D5 LE. The all wheel drive transmission is supplemented by a stability and traction control system. The ABS brakes have electronic brakeforce distribution. Front air bags are complemented by full cabin length curtain airbags and side airbags for the front seats.
The XC70 D5 LE has Volvo's three year unlimited kilometres warranty and a seven year anti-corrosion warranty. It is priced at $84,990, the same as the out going less powerful model.
