Sofitel Queenstown Developers Win National And International Awards

The developers of the Sofitel complex in Queenstown have picked up prestigious national and international awards within the same 24-hour period.

Perron Development, owned by Auckland-based developers Mark Perriam and Cameron Marsh, won two awards at the influential Property Council of New Zealand Rider Hunt Property Awards last weekend, collected by Perriam, while at the same time Marsh was collecting awards in San Francisco.

Perron Development took an excellence award in the Holmes Consulting Tourism and Leisure division for the Sofitel complex in Duke Street, Queenstown.

Judges described the project as "very successful" for the developers, from the sound initial purchase of the site to the creation of a freehold/leasehold structure and the deliberate five-star branding.
In their awards entry, Perron said the Sofitel building's scale and visibility was accentuated by its elevated position. The hotel features 70 deluxe rooms, ten executive suites, two penthouse suites, and two levels of restaurants, bars and boutique retail outlets. The building offers a contemporary 'take' on the region's classical architecture.

The building was completed in September 2005 with the help of architects Group CDA Design, construction company Amalgamated Builders, engineer Lewis Bradford & Associates, quantity surveyor Maltbys & Partners, the Baxter Design Group and Brown Pemberton Planning.
The Property Council awards recognise outstanding property developments and excellence in the efficient use of capital in property development, setting a benchmark for the property industry in New Zealand.

Perron also won an award in the Fisher & Paykel Multi-Unit Residential Property Excellence division for the company's Oakridge Apartments in Remuera, Auckland. Designed to capture uninterrupted views of Auckland's Waitemata Harbour, the judges said attention to detail in the planning, design and construction phase contributed to the success of the project, which required coordination and flexibility by both the developer and the builder to meet individual purchasers' requirements.

At the international Gold Nugget property awards in San Francisco, the oldest and largest design and planning competition in the US, the Sofitel complex was nominated in two categories and won awards of merit in both.

The categories were an international project awards speciality project, and international commercial/retail project award. The awards drew 677 entries from across 14 states and international countries.

Perriam and Marsh said they were "absolutely thrilled" with the awards.

"They recognise the company's hard work and absolute commitment to on-going quality since its inception 12 years ago," said Perriam.

Marsh said he had to thank everyone involved with the projects.

"I would like thank very much the extremely competent, creative and energetic team from Perron and all its associated consultants and suppliers," he said.
