Cardrona Alpine Resort has introduced a new concept in gravity-x training for 2006 with its new eight-week Taste Gravity-X Series for both skiers and snowboarders.
With a unique combination of training and competition, the Series runs for three hours every Friday from 14 July. Each day kicks off with an hour of training from Cardrona High Performance Centre coaches, including several Olympic athletes and team coaches. This is followed by a number of timed runs on the gravity-x course before a final hour of head-to-head racing.
“Previously it was hard for athletes to get competitive experience without fronting up to the major gravity-x events which can be extremely daunting,” said Cardrona Head of Events, Ewan Straight. “This new series fills a gap and allows more people to get on the course and learn new skills and tactics so when they do enter the big competitions it’s an environment they’re familiar with as they’ve gained plenty of experience racing against other people.”
A ladder ranking system based on the timed runs will run throughout the Series, allowing athletes to monitor their progress and find the ladder winners. This ranking also pre-qualifies them for the GravityFest on 5 September, a full-blown competition open to the public that marks the end of the Series.
The Taste Gravity-X Series runs from 14 July - 5 September at Cardrona Alpine Resort and costs $140 or $30 a session. For further information contact Cardrona HPC on 03 443 7341.
