Mondeo & Courier Lead Strong Ford
June Sales
AUCKLAND, New Zealand, 10 July 2006
Strong performances from Mondeo, Courier, Falcon and Focus assisted Ford to record its highest monthly market share (15.1%) so far this year.
"Mondeo was the most popular medium car in New Zealand in June with 22.2% of the segment - sales of 262 vehicles also made it the number two nameplate in the country," said Richard Matheson, Managing Director of Ford New Zealand.
"With 242 sales, Falcon finished fourth overall and missed leadership in the D/E segment by a single unit," said Mr Matheson.
After five years of unbroken growth, there are signs that the New Zealand new vehicle market has reached a plateau - in what is traditionally a strong selling month, new car sales in June of 6392 units were down considerably on June 2005 (7713)
"The Territory continues to dominate the SUV segment - it finished June with 198 sales and its segment share of 31.1% was its highest share of segment so far this year."
"Kiwi drivers continue to fall in love with the car-like handling and off-road abilities of this award-winning vehicle - its popularity looks set to continue with the recent launch of the exciting new Territory Turbo,"
"There was also good news in the light commercial vehicle segment where 309 sales of Couriers were its best result to date in 2006, as were Falcon Ute sales of 63 vehicles."
Ford finished the first half of 2006 in a solid second place overall with 13.6% of the total market, 13.0% of the new car market and 17.3% of the light commercial market.
