Adidas uses text and email to help Kiwis

New Zealanders could soon be receiving personalised text and email reminders to help them stay on track with their personal fitness goals, after an innovative website developed by adidas went live this week.

adidas New Zealand Managing Director, Greig Bramwell, said the new website www.adiRun.co.nz officially launched today will tap into the online community providing them with the motivation they need to meet personal fitness goals.

Greig said the dedicated website was originally developed after adidas identified a need to provide personalised support to the recreational runner - who may not have immediate access to expert fitness and nutritional advice.

"We quickly saw an opportunity to go beyond the current offerings and help individuals to achieve their personal health and fitness goals," Greig said.

"Given New Zealand's current battle with an obesity epidemic, we also see adiRun.co.nz as potentially giving Kiwis the tools they need to address health and fitness challenges - both now and into the future."

adiRun.co.nz is easy to use and provides the individual with a personalised fitness and nutritional programme that will help them to meet their unique fitness goal whether it is large or small.

Greig said when people register on the adiRun.co.nz site they can either select a goal from a comprehensive list of options provided to them or input their own personal goal.

"This could be anything from running a marathon event right through to simply looking good in a bathing suit for summer," Greig said.

While completing their individual fitness and nutritional programme, registrants are sent regular motivational updates and reminders via text messages or emails, depending on the preference of the user.

"It's widely accepted that people need to be constantly motivated if they want to reach a fitness goal, hence the use of text and email prompts," Greig said.

On top of text and email reminders, users are also reminded of their individual goals each time they log onto the site.

A further aim of adiRun.co.nz is to create a 'community of running' in which users can be assisted by top experts including fitness guru John Ackland and nutritionist Caryn Zinn, while also gaining support and tips online from other like-minded people.

"The adiRun.co.nz website features a message board that users can post messages on, start conversations and meet with others for training sessions," Greig said.

Consumers can become part of the adiRun.co.nz community by buying anything from the adidas running gear range - adiStar, Supernova or Response (excluding caps and socks). A membership code is provided at point of sale. For more information go to www.adirun.co.nz

NOTE: Should you require any general running shots please let us know and we will be happy to provide.
