ANZ Export Awards – Celebrating export success in Waikato

Outstanding Waikato businesses from across the industry spectrum were honoured at the ANZ Waikato Export Awards tonight.

Three new awards joined the established Ullrich Aluminium Waikato Emerging Exporter of the Year award.

“This special event, is an opportunity to acknowledge the skills and determination of the region’s successful exporters”, says Export New Zealand Waikato President Terry Blackler.

“Waikato business have always been renowned for their creativity, ingenuity and innovative nature and the judges comments confirmed the vision, passion and commitment of the entrants”.

Amongst other things the awards recognised the design and manufacture of fresh fruit and vegetable sorting machinery, ‘state of the art’ microlights, expertise in marine consulting and research, and print solution providers.

The Port of Tauranga Waikato Exporter of the Year Award went to BBC Technologies, last year’s Emerging Exporter winner. This innovative company develops and manufactures advanced, cost-effective solutions for the small fruits, nuts and vegetable industries, including colour-sorting equipment that dominates the American blueberry market.

The Ullrich Aluminium Waikato Emerging Exporter of the Year 2006 was presented to Micro Aviation (NZ) Ltd, a 2005 finalist. The company manufactures and operates microlights from its own licensed private airfield. Commencing with production of the first Bantam microlight in 1984, constant development and improvement has culminated in the ‘state of the art’ model B22S and certification of their Bantam microlight with a Jabiru engine (B22J).

The BBC Technologies and Pipers Central Waikato Innovator of the Year 2006 was ASR Ltd – ‘Amalgamates Solutions and Research’, specialists in marine consulting and research - making artificial reefs - with international experience in the Pacific, Asia, Europe and the Americas.

The Hamilton International Airport Waikato Export Service Provider of the Year Award went to Admark Visual Imaging Ltd. Founded as a small screen-printing business in 1971, the company expanded into the self-adhesive label market and now provides innovative in-house printing technology solutions for the visual imaging requirements of their clients.

“The awards showcase the exciting businesses growing in the region”, says ANZ Head of Trade and Transaction Services, Graham Mills.

“An encouraging outcome of winning an award like this is that businesses get the confidence to set higher goals, which as far-reaching benefits for the business, the economy and New Zealand exports. It’s always a privilege to work with dynamic companies who can visualise their ambitions and the means of achieving them”.

As the Waikato Emerging Exporter of the Year, Micro Aviation (NZ) Ltd goes through as a finalist to the Export New Zealand National Emerging Exporter Award presented at the NZTE Export Awards Gala Dinner on 16 November. http://www.exportawards.co.nz
