Triangle TV: Impressive Line-Up For Wellington

Triangle Television Plans Impressive Line-Up For Wellington

Triangle Television is preparing to launch in Wellington with a programme schedule that is packed with special-interest programmes offering the capital's viewers an intelligent and sophisticated alternative to mainstream television.

On track to launch in August, the free-to-air station is set to deliver a Wellington programme line-up that reflects a wide range of public broadcast television. The line-up will include locally-made programmes on topics of specific interest to Wellingtonians, respected international news and current affairs shows, and programmes showcasing cinema, technology, wildlife, the arts, fashion, travel, health and business. The selection of programmes has been fine-tuned for Wellington's uniquely broad-based viewership.

The key feature of the programme schedule will be the screening of locally-made programmes.

"The response from organisations and individuals wanting to make a programme for screening on Triangle Television Wellington has been very positive. Some will be ready to screen when we first go to air - others will launch during our first few months of broadcasting. We expect the number of local programme providers to continue growing even further as we become more and more established in Wellington."

Jim Blackman says Triangle Television offers 'a wonderful opportunity' for people of the region to make and screen their own television programmes.

"Wellington offers a huge number of potential programming sources including community organisations, schools and other educational institutions, groups representing a wide range of cultures, and other organisations involved in a range of political, social and environmental activities. We are keen to hear from them will give them support to take their stories to air."

Jim Blackman says when selecting international programmes for the new Wellington station, Triangle Television has drawn on its experience of broadcasting in Auckland for the past eight years.

"We will offer an international perspective on major world events and developments. Many of the international programmes we will deliver to our Wellington viewers will be those that have made a real impact in Auckland - such as Deutsche Welle's highly-respected news and current affairs programme Journal and the internationally acclaimed "Lehrer NewsHour" from PBS."
