Future-proof businesses to be recognised

Future-proof businesses to be recognised

Companies taking up the challenge of sustainability are to be recognised by the new Westpac National Sustainable Business Awards, to be presented at a gala function on October 12.

“Many New Zealand businesses have begun changing how they operate, not just because they want to, but because they have to in order to survive,” says Rachel Brown, CEO of the Sustainable Business Network.

“Sustainable Business is about future proofing your business as much as it is about the environment. The Westpac National Sustainable Business Awards are a chance for businesses to highlight their success in changing themselves for the future.”

The awards recognise companies that are making a Supreme effort in sustainability; are taking are Trailblazing approach; those that are Innovating; are Emerging as sustainable businesses; or are Exploring sustainability. An additional ‘People’s Choice’ category will be voted on by SBN members.

“Participants in the Westpac National Sustainable Business Awards will have already taken part in a rigorous Sustainability Challenge programme and Awards in their regions. The winners from each region are entered into the national awards, meaning the Awards evening will celebrate the best of the best,” says Rachel.

“Sustainability has been an important aspect of Westpac’s operations for some time. It’s helped us punch above our weight on global capital markets and appeal to a broader shareholder audience interested in longer-term results,” explains Ann Sherry Westpac CEO.

She continues “Our support of The Westpac National Sustainable Business Awards is a very real illustration of our commitment to sustainable business practice, and something we hope will inspire others to ‘get sustainable’ too.”

“Westpac is providing real leadership within the financial sector with sustainability and we’re delighted they are supporting the national awards. Sustainability will only be achieved with the full participation of our business institutions and Westpac’s journey along the sustainability path is an example for others,” says Rachel Brown.
