Unlimited Future For Unlimited And Actv8 Magazines
Auckland, 20 July 2006: Infego Communications Ltd announced today that it has purchased New Zealand's top business magazine, the multi-award winning title UNLIMITED, along with its youth-oriented sibling publication ACTV8, from IDG Communications Ltd.
Publishing veteran Julie Gill is the CEO and owner of the newly formed Infego Communications Ltd. Gill says "UNLIMITED's award-winning editorial team, Fiona Rotherham, Mark Revington and Caitlin Sykes will continue in their current roles with the magazine. It is their skills, their attitude and their determination that has made UNLIMITED what it is today. We are delighted to have such a talented and dedicated editorial team.
ACTV8, which has the support of the government-funded HiGrowth Project, was launched with much fanfare late last year and launched a new website this June. Aimed at students aged 12-16, ACTV8 is designed to excite and inspire New Zealand's youth about careers in high-tech industries, by exposing them to the wide variety of roles available."
"Magazines need to constantly evolve and we see a bright future for UNLIMITED and ACTV8 at Infego, I have over 15 years experience in publishing across the UK and Europe, and more recently here in New Zealand, as managing director of IDG NZ. In that time I have seen many changes, in particular the dramatic increase in multi-media capabilities as a result of technology developments. I don't think there has ever been a more exciting time than there is now to be in publishing. Which is another reason why we are so delighted with the acquisition of UNLIMITED and ACTV8," Gill says.
Don Kennedy, managing director of IDG Australia/New Zealand, says he is very pleased with the successful sale of the magazines to Infego Communications. "I genuinely believe that UNLIMITED is one of the highest-quality magazines in the world. Every issue bears the mark of a team that is dedicated, creative and talented. As we continue to explore new business models in New Zealand, I am delighted that Julie and the Infego team can continue the proud tradition they started with IDG," Kennedy says.
"Infego is one of a new breed of true cross-media publishing houses. It is no longer about one type of media versus another, but rather how the different forms of media co-exist and work to support each other. Dan Gillmor, the well-known US-based journalist and media commentator, put it best when he said that it was not about one media versus another. Rather it is about making information available in a variety of forms, so that people can choose the media type that best suits their location and preference at any given time," Gill says
