Foodstuffs South Island to open new liquor chain

Foodstuffs South Island to open new liquor chain

The first of a new chain of liquor stores, owned by Foodstuffs South Island
Limited, will open in Queenstown in mid-October.

Trading under the Henry¹s brand name, the flagship store will be the
forerunner to the growth of this group, which will occur as the opportunity
arises to strategically locate these stores.

Queenstown was seen as the ideal location to launch the first Henry¹s due to
its unique customer base and trading environment.

Concentrating on a shop format, mainly under 400sq. m, Henry¹s will stock
beer, wines and spirits and RTDs. Gerry Breen, the present operator of
Alpine Four Square Supermarket, is to own the store.

Steve Anderson, chief executive of Foodstuffs South Island, said it was the
company¹s first foray into the standalone liquor store market. Research had
shown there was a strong demand for a standalone, full service chain of
independents offering a complete liquor range.

³The growth of beer and wine in supermarkets is slowing, whereas the RTD
market continues to grow. Our research also indicates that customers are
prepared to trade up from budget to mainstream to premium on most liquor
categories.²

Anderson said Henry¹s would cater for the mid-upper tier of the market.

³Henry¹s will provide a more attractive, comfortable environment in which to
purchase compared with existing traditional outlets. It promises to be a
very exciting time for consumers,² he said.
