Ministers launch $100m LandNZ project with PWB

Ministers Phil Goff and David Parker last night helped launch a New Zealand-based export consortium that industry figures estimate could bring in $100m over the next five years.

LandNZ is a network of land information businesses actively engaged in providing services and capability for export in areas of geographic, land and property information and management.

Member companies specialize in areas such as spatial databases, property valuation, property information, topographical data and mapping solutions.

New Zealand is a world-leader in land management, and LandNZ’s diverse membership aims to fully serve international enquiries in the area.

LandNZ Patron Bill Robertson – an independent consultant whose clients include the World Bank, United Nations and Food and Agricultural Organisation – said spatial information technology, for example, is a huge international growth area.

Mr Robertson said two-thirds of the world’s population will become urban over the next 45 years, and two-thirds of this growth will occur in the Asian region.

“The pressure of this one-time urban development will greatly multiply and complicate the demands on land development, administration and infrastructure,” he said.

Positively Wellington Business, the Wellington Regions’ economic development agency, is providing management and facilitation support for the new grouping, and hosted last night’s launch.

PWB Chief Executive Philip Lewin said the LandNZ project was “a good example of our work to promote business capability and global competitiveness”.

“It’s great to have both the Ministers of Trade and Negotiations here to bless this new initiative, for Wellington and the whole of New Zealand. PWB looks forward to helping LandNZ reap strong export benefits over the coming years” said Mr Lewin.
