First in new hotel group opens

Leading Auckland-based property company Melview Developments has announced the launch of a brand new group of hotels in New Zealand called the Quadrant Hotel Group.

The first hotel in the chain, The Quadrant - Auckland, officially opens its doors today (August 2).

The Quadrant Hotel Group is Melview’s first venture into managing and operating hotels in leading New Zealand tourist and business travel destinations.

The company’s hospitality experience is in developing and building hotels. They include the Sebel Hotel, the soon-to-be-announced five-star hotel in the Viaduct Harbour’s award-winning Lighter Quay and an $80 million Holiday Inn in Wellington.

Melview managing director Nigel McKenna says the company’s experience in developing quality hotels combined with a shortfall in the industry has been instrumental in the creation of the Quadrant Hotel Group.

“We are keenly aware that accommodation supply is currently not meeting the demand from both business travellers and FITs (Free Independent Travellers). This demand is only going to intensify with major international events, such as the 2011 Rugby World Cup, attracting increasing numbers of visitors to our shores.”

Mr McKenna says location, design, quality and service at an affordable price are at the heart of Quadrant Hotel Group’s philosophy.

The first hotel for the Group, The Quadrant – Auckland is a fresh and contemporary new-comer to the Auckland accommodation scene. Set at the epicentre of the city’s cultural, entertainment, shopping and sporting circle, the hotel is located next to the Hyatt and opposite the old Government House on Waterloo Quadrant.

Each of The Quadrant - Auckland’s 250 stylish studio, one-and two-bedroom apartment rooms has its own private balcony offering stunning panoramic views across the Waitemata Harbour.

The Quadrant – Auckland combines an innovative use of space with modern design and friendly service. The entire hotel is equipped with WiFi for wireless web access and every room features an LCD phone with voicemail and data ports.

The hotel’s facilities reflect a commitment to simple, sharp interiors, with commissioned artworks. The Quad Kitchen will offer fresh and convenient food and opens later this month. The elegant Quad Bar follows in September.

The Quadrant – Auckland general manager Hayden Porter says the hotel stands as a monument to design, bringing a refreshing style of chic to the accommodation market in the City of Sails.

“We don’t over-promise and under-deliver on anything. Just the opposite! Guests will be impressed – not only by the stunning look and feel of the apartments but also by the friendly service.”

The Quadrant - Auckland is headed up by some of the industry’s leading hotel operators who bring with them a wealth of international experience.

General manager Hayden Porter and director of sales and marketing Penny Evans have extensive experience in international five star hotels. Paul Evans, general manager of hotels at Melview, leads the team. Paul most recently opened and held senior roles with leading contemporary five star establishments, One Aldwych and Ian Schrager Hotels in London.

Construction of a second Quadrant Hotel begins in late 2007. The Quadrant – Queenstown will be part of Kawarau Falls Station, another of Melview’s current developments, and will occupy a prime position in New Zealand’s premier resort on the shores of Lake Wakatipu.

Rooms in The Quadrant - Auckland start at $125 a night (excluding GST). For more information and reservations visit: www.thequadrant.com or call 0800 66 66 11
