Wayne Boyd Steps Down
Wayne Boyd, chairman of Auckland International Airport Limited, has today confirmed that he will resign from the board of the company immediately after its annual meeting on 25 October 2006.
Wayne Boyd said, “In light of my significant additional commitment to Telecom, I am consolidating my current board roles. There are only so many directorships I can realistically and effectively undertake.” Mr Boyd also confirmed today that he will be resigning from the board of Forsyth Barr.
Wayne Boyd was appointed a director of the company in 1996, and elected chairman after the annual meeting that year. Mr Boyd said, "Auckland Airport has come a long way over the last 10 years. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the company. The company retains a very strong board and senior management team. It is well-placed to deliver on the next stage of its development."
Mike Smith, chairman of the company's nominations committee, said, “Wayne’s contribution to Auckland Airport has been invaluable. The company has prospered under his leadership. It has been a real privilege to have worked with him. On behalf of his fellow directors, management and staff at the company, I sincerely thank Wayne for his contribution to the development of Auckland Airport as New Zealand’s international gateway."
John Maasland will be appointed as a director forthwith. It is intended that he will replace Mr Boyd as chairman upon Mr Boyd’s resignation after the company’s annual meeting. John has held a number of senior executive positions with Wilson & Horton Limited, including chief executive officer from 1996 to 1998. He was appointed to the board of Carter Holt Harvey Limited in October 1998, and appointed chairman of Carter Holt in 2003. Other appointments include chairman of The New Zealand Radio Network, South Auckland Health Foundation and the Royal New Zealand Ballet and director of APN News & Media Limited, Auckland Regional Chamber of Commerce, Macquarie Goodman (NZ) Limited, Delegat’s Group Limited and Woosh Wireless Limited. John's appointment as a director will continue until the company's annual meeting, at which time he will retire by rotation and stand for re-election.
Mr Maasland said, "Mr Boyd leaves the company in good health. I am looking forward to working with the board and management to take the company forward in a way that continues to add value to its shareholders, airline customers and many other stakeholders."
