NZ stores have no connection to British Powerhouse
Today’s announcement that the British retailer Powerhouse, owned by Eric Watson’s PRG, is winding down, has nothing to do with New Zealand’s Dick Smith Electronics PowerHouse stores.
Dick Smith Electronics PowerHouse is owned by Woolworths Australia, and has no connection whatsoever with PRG or the British chain.
New Zealand general manager Stu Meadows said that New Zealand’s two specialist consumer electronics megastores – in Manukau and Hamilton - were trading well.
“We are very pleased with the performance of our Dick Smith Electronics PowerHouse stores in New Zealand, and are progressing with plans to open more,” he said.
The Dick Smith Electronics PowerHouse stores have been established in Australia for 10 years. The first New Zealand store opened in Hamilton in 2004, with a second store opening in Manukau in April this year. The next store will be in the Sylvia Park shopping complex in Auckland.
