Absurd Bill gets worse

Amendments to the Employment Relations Amendment Bill have made it even worse, says Business NZ.

The Bill gives cleaning and catering staff the right to transfer to a new employer on existing pay, in cases where the cleaning or catering contract changes hands.

The amendments, passed in Parliament yesterday, require contractors to disclose commercially sensitive information at the time of the change of contract.

Business NZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly says the amendments, which have been rushed through with no consultation, don’t address the Bill’s problems.

“Instead, they will force contractors to make commercially sensitive information available to their competitors. This will complicate the tender process further and encourage lawsuits over information disclosure.

“The amendments add invasion of privacy on top of an already absurd Bill.”
