Sofitel Queenstown celebrates win

Sofitel Queenstown celebrates win in hotel excellence awards

Queenstown's premier five-star hotel, Sofitel Queenstown is celebrating taking out top honours in a prestigious hotel excellence awards ceremony in Sydney on Friday (Sept 8).

The year-old hotel was named the best New Zealand CBD Property in the HM Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence.

The win was announced at an awards gala dinner at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, attended by Sofitel Queenstown General Manager Mark Wilkinson and around 400 hospitality and accommodation professionals from Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

"We're obviously absolutely delighted with the win, especially as the hotel has only just celebrated its first anniversary and we were up against stiff competition from some extremely well regarded and long-established properties," he said.

"This is fantastic recognition for the hotel management team and our dedicated staff because it recognises our commitment to style, exemplary service, and a truly five star experience."

Other properties in the New Zealand CBD category included Queenstown's Eichardt's Private Hotel, The George in Christchurch, Auckland's Hilton, Langham, SkyCity and Mollies hotels, and the Intercontinental Wellington.

The Sofitel Queenstown is New Zealand's first Sofitel property. It features 70 opulent and stylish deluxe rooms, ten executive suites, two penthouse suites, and two levels of restaurants, bars and boutique retail, all in the finest location in the heart of Queenstown.

In April Sofitel Queenstown was named among the top 20 hotels in the world by prestigious Australian travel magazine Gourmet Traveller. It was the only New Zealand property to feature in the 'Best of the Best' accolade.
