Get in the Zone – Where All Sports Meet
The countdown to the opening of Waikato’s new premium sports bar is on! Zone at SKYCITY Hamilton opens to the public on Friday 29 September.
SKYCITY Hamilton General Manager Geoff Hogg says the new bar is unlike anything else currently on offer in Hamilton.
“It’s the ultimate sports bar experience,” says Geoff. “With five big screens and nine plasma TVs, Zone is the place to watch your favourite sport.
“The new bar will further enhance the range of entertainment options on offer at SKYCITY Hamilton. From 10-pin bowling and laser strike to restaurant dining and casino gaming – SKYCITY Hamilton is the total entertainment experience under one roof. And there’s more to come… I look forward to announcing more exciting developments over the coming months.”
Zone will become the new home of Waikato rugby, with the players participating in activities at the bar after each home game. On Sunday 1 October the mighty Waikato take on the North Harbour in Hamilton. After the game the team will be in Zone, with two players pulling pints of Waikato behind the bar. Customers will be able to buy a drink from a player, and mix and mingle with their heroes.
Geoff Hogg says he is a big sports fan and is looking forward to being in Zone for all major sporting events.
“We’ve got the Air New Zealand Cup Finals in October, the Melbourne Cup in November, the All Blacks tour to England, France and Wales in November, and the Black Caps taking on Sri Lanka throughout December to name just a few. Being in Zone will be the next best thing to being there,” says Geoff.
Zone is designed by leading New Zealand architect Tom Skyring, who designed SKYCITY Auckland’s award-winning restaurant, ‘dine’ by Peter Gordon and popular bar, Bar3. With a stone bar top, fireplaces, sporting images and memorabilia, and multiple seating booths - Zone is the perfect venue to relax and enjoy the sport. It’s unique design means that wherever you stand or sit you will be able to see a TV screen showing the game. A secluded area at the rear of the bar will cater for private functions.
Whereas Zone opens to the public on Friday 29 September, the official invite-only opening launch function is on Tuesday 3 October. Hosted by Tony Veitch with musical entertainment from the Mermaids, the function will be attended by the who’s-who of the local sporting scene, and will cement the bar as Hamilton’s new hot spot.
The new bar has created several new jobs with 15 bar-staff and a team of dedicated chefs joining Zone’s Manager, Jack Kiors.
