Warehouse supplied with new retail technology

Provenco to supply The Warehouse with new retail technology

Listed technology company Provenco (NZX: PVO) has announced a new contract with The Warehouse to provide point-of-sale and payment technology across the retailer’s 85 stores nationwide.

The $3.3 million contract will see Provenco’s advanced point-of-sale and payment technology installed in more than 1,300 shopping lanes.

The contract includes installation of new point-of-sale terminals integrated with EMV-compliant EFTPOS payment technology. Provenco and The Warehouse will complete the project within a tight timeframe in time for the Christmas rush.

General Manager of Provenco’s Technology division, Andre van Duiven, said the contract was an exciting development for Provenco’s retail technology business and reinforced the company’s leadership in design and supply of point-of-sale technology.

“Our solution will meet The Warehouse’s current requirements and at the same time provide a pathway into the future.

“Consistency in point-of-sale systems and Provenco’s deployment methodology across the business was key for The Warehouse, as was the ability to meet tight implementation timeframes,” said Mr van Duiven.

“The Warehouse previously used a mixture of technology across its stores. Having the technology standardised across all outlets will allow the introduction of new applications more easily as well as maintaining technology efficiencies. Additionally, it provides an important path to upgrading the EFTPOS technology to accommodate the new EMV smart cards requirements, which are being phased in around the world.”

The Warehouse CIO, Owen McCall, said Provenco’s track record and overall technical expertise was a key factor in winning the contract.

“The company has industry relationships and a track record that shows it can deliver on budget and within very tight project timeframes. Provenco’s innovation and retail technical expertise is critical in delivering the right technology solutions for our stores,” said Mr McCall.

Provenco chief executive, David Ritchie, said the contract extended a long-term relationship with The Warehouse and was consistent with Provenco’s growth strategy of delivering value-added retail technology solutions to its large and growing customer base in New Zealand.

“Provenco is a proven expert in retail technology and we are committed to building on existing relationships to provide value to businesses as a technology partner, rather than simply a supplier,” he said.

“This is the third major point-of-sale contract win for Provenco in eight months and the largest for retail technology in terms of the number of shopping lanes involved. Our contracts to supply retail and point-of-sale technology to Farmers Trading Company and Foodstuffs South Island earlier this year were the largest point-of-sale projects in New Zealand in recent years.

“Both projects reflected the quality of Provenco’s technology solutions, our people and their professionalism and we are now pleased to work with The Warehouse to deliver Provenco technology across their store network,” said Mr Ritchie.
