Nick Stride appointed
Editor of The Independent Financial Review
Fairfax Media has appointed Nick Stride as Editor of The Independent Financial Review newspaper effective from today (October 4).
He will take over as Editor from Bernard Hickey, who as Managing Editor of Fairfax Media Business Publishing has been acting Editor since the relaunch of the newspaper on 17 May.
“A member of the IFR for the past 14 months, as a senior journalist he has broken many of IFR’s leading business news stories. He has also been a regular contributor to the respected Chalkie column,” Managing Editor Bernard Hickey said.
Previously Business Editor at the National Business Review, Stride has won a Qantas award for his columns and has won the Westpac award for his financial features. He has been a financial journalist in New Zealand for more than 16 years, working at The New Zealand Herald and contributing to Unlimited magazine.
"We're pleased Nick will lead the newspaper's continuing resurgence,” said Hickey.
“Since our re-launch we have built the newspaper into the strongest weekly financial newspaper in the country, breaking major business and political stories that have set the agenda for New Zealand's most powerful readers.
“Nick will further strengthen and build the newspaper for both readers and advertisers."
Stride said The Independent Financial Review had a strong and experienced team of journalists who every week were producing the best financial journalism in New Zealand.
“In the space of only four months the IFR has become a ‘must read’ for those who need to stay across developing business and political news, and has established itself as one of the most influential mastheads in the Fairfax Media stable," Stride said.
Hickey remains as Fairfax Media's managing editor for The Independent Financial Review and BusinessDay.
