New Chief Executive for Housing New Zealand Corporation

Dr Lesley McTurk has been appointed Chief Executive of the Housing New Zealand Corporation, HNZC Board Chairman Pat Snedden announced today.

Dr McTurk is currently the Chief Executive of the Christchurch City Council. She replaces Helen Fulcher as Chief Executive of HNZC.

“The Board of Housing New Zealand Corporation is delighted to appoint a new Chief Executive with such extensive practical senior executive experience. Christchurch City Council has one of the biggest social housing portfolios in the country.” said Pat Snedden.

“Lesley is a visionary leader with an understanding of the issues and challenges confronting the housing sector. She has a proven track record of leading large organisations and is a dynamic executive and an outstanding strategic thinker.”

For the nine years preceding her appointment to Chief Executive of the Christchurch City Council, in December 2002, Dr McTurk held Senior Executive positions at Southern Cross Healthcare and Mercy Hospital in Auckland.

Dr McTurk will take up her position in Wellington early in the new year.

Pat Snedden acknowledged the excellent leadership of Housing Services General Manager Ian Bourke who has been the acting Chief Executive of the Corporation since July this year. “Ian has done a very competent job in leading the organisation through the early part of the transitional period but he has a desire to return to his substantive role,” said Pat Snedden. “I have therefore appointed Greg Orchard, General Manager Asset Services to act as Chief Executive from October 14 2006 until Lesley takes up the new role.”
