Chamber Welcomes National's Climate Change Policy

Chamber Welcomes National Party’s Climate Change Policy

The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the National Party’s climate change policy - incorporated in its “Bluegreen Vision” released today.

“Business needs stability and certainty in its investment decisions. For this to occur there needs to be consensus across political parties on climate change. We are pleased that National’s policy recognises this”, Mr Finny said.

“The need for political consensus and policy certainty was the overwhelming message coming from the Chamber’s recent New Zealand Business Climate Change Dialogue.

“We also agree with the National party that New Zealand should join the Asia Pacific Partnership on Climate Change once that membership door opens. This should be a compliment to the UN/Kyoto process, not an alternative to this.

“National’s policy release followed a ‘commitment to action’ on climate change from the Government earlier today.

“It is now imperative that all political parties sit down and form a non-partisan climate change policy.

“Business also needs to be included in the formation of this policy. This involvement must be at the early stages and not just invited to respond to Government proposals,” Mr Finny concluded.
