Orcon brings you live TV, via the Internet
Orcon Internet has teamed up with music channel Alt TV for a New Zealand first; television streamed over the internet, free, 24 hours a day.
The Alt TV online stream can be accessed by anyone in New Zealand for free, and users are able to choose the quality of the stream which best suits their connection speed. The highest quality stream is very similar to standard television reception.
The Alt TV online stream is being broadcast via the brand new Orcon website, which features some of New Zealand's best broadband content. Along with the Alt TV stream there are hundreds of movie trailers provided by digirama.co.nz, a streaming radio player with some of New Zealand's best independent radio stations, and up to date weather forecasts for New Zealand provided by Weather.com.
"This is part of our long term vision to deliver outstanding broadband and broadband content to New Zealanders. Keep an eye on the Orcon site over the coming weeks and months, we have some pretty big plans in the works. Look out for things like a legal music download service with nearly 1,000,000 tracks, a comprehensive news portal and additional TV channels being added. These are just a few of the things that currently in development" said Seeby Woodhouse, Orcon¹s Chief Executive.
"At the end of this month we are launching full speed ADSL1 broadband offerings, and VDSL2 is on its way in 2007. With this extra speed, comes the ability to deliver a richer experience to our customers, which is why we are investing heavily in new media, including IPTV, Mobile Media and more interactive websites" continued Woodhouse.
The redeveloped Orcon site has two new sections. The 'entertain me' section offers users streaming content including the Alt TV stream, and the 'inform me' section features news headlines from the New Zealand Herald, as well as an interactive weather map. These sections will be expanded on heavily in the next few weeks.
"The new sections of the site represent some of the best things that the internet provides; up to the minute news and information, and great entertainment. We are committed to continuing to improve the site and add more functionality and content as we go" concluded Woodhouse.
Orcon has sustained a high level of growth over the past 4 years to become New Zealand's 4th biggest ISP, and the largest ISP that is 100% New Zealand owned and operated Orcon recently won the TUANZ ISP of the Year award for 2006.
