Minister To Address Business Owners

Small Business Minister To Address Business Owners And Their Coaches

The Minister for Small Business, Lianne Dalziel, is to be guest speaker at the gala dinner for the 2006 Action International Business Awards being held in Rotorua on Friday (October 27).

Ms Dalziel will address more than 125 small to medium-size business owners who, though representing a broad spectrum of New Zealand commerce and industry, share a determination to overcome the odds in business. Some are contenders for the evening's top awards - each has shown outstanding achievement through business coaching and personal hard work in the past year, under the direction of an Action International specialist coach.

Ranging from beautician to a drainage contractor, the 22 companies are in the running for seven separate awards and the overall, coveted "Action International Business of the Year" title.

Entrepreneurial business coaching organisation, Action International Business Coaching, introduced the awards three years ago to honour its coaches' top achievers - those who have had the courage to recognise and remedy their business's shortcomings or to significantly improve the way they operate their businesses by taking positive action. Most are small to medium businesses: the kind that make up more than 80 per cent of New Zealand's enterprises and which contribute substantially to the country's economy.

THE CONTENDER(S) FOR YOUR AREA IS LISTED AT THE END OF THIS PRESS RELEASE.

The seven Action International Business Awards categories for 2006 are:

On the judging panel for this year's awards are Barry Dow (a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, Associate Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management and a board member of a various private companies); Ross Turner (a founding shareholder and director of the Apple Computer distribution franchise in New Zealand, and director of Pinnacle Recruitment) and Phil Richards – the winner of the inaugural Action International Business Awards "Entrepreneur of the Year" and "Business of the Year" titles.

The 2006 awards will be announced at a gala dinner on Friday 27th October at the Grand Tiara hotel in Rotorua. The ceremony will be a major highlight of Action International's two-day annual conference.

Another of the conference's main features is a special client day on the Friday for which more than 60 of Action's clients from around New Zealand have registered. Several business owners who are coached by Action International coaches will share their success stories with the audience – these guest speakers include business owners Catherine Stone of central Auckland's The Face Place Medspa, and Tony Smith of Francis Travel Marketing based in Takapuna, Auckland.

As a member of the media, we ask that you contact Parag Khedekar, Action International Marketing Co-ordinator, for your complimentary ticket to the client day and/or the gala dinner and awards ceremony on the Friday evening.
