Shell, Progressive launch grocery fuel discounts

Media release

Thursday 26 October 2006

Shell New Zealand and Progressive Enterprises Limited launch nationwide grocery fuel discount programme

Shell New Zealand is delighted to join forces with Progressive Enterprises Limited as a redemption partner for the first nationwide grocery fuel discount programme to be launched in New Zealand. The initiative will deliver a more competitive offering to our customers than ever before, and cements Shell’s position as market leader in fuels retailing in New Zealand.

Under the programme, people who shop at any of Progressive’s 153 Woolworths, Foodtown and Countdown supermarkets and spend $40 or more will receive a fuel discount voucher. This voucher will initially be for 4 cents per litre off the pump price that can be redeemed at participating Shell service stations nationwide. One discount voucher can be used per transaction, to purchase up to 100 litres of fuel. Shell retains full control over setting pump prices at its company operated sites.

“Coupled with our constant monitoring to ensure we give New Zealanders the best possible fuel prices, the fuel discount programme continues Shell’s proud history of innovation in its retailing approach to give our customers unbeatable value for money, “ said Mark Forsyth, Retail General Manager, Shell NZ.

“Not only does the fuel discount programme enable people to save on the cost of petrol, diesel and LPG Autogas, they can also collect Fly Buys points on their purchase. This is a real win-win offer for consumers.”

As a promotion for individual consumers rather than commercial customers, the fuel discount will not be available to customers using a fuel card. However, commercial customers will continue to enjoy the competitive price advantages of the Shell Card.

“This arrangement continues our hard fought position as a market leader in fuels retailing in New Zealand, and builds on Shell’s global ambition to be the world’s best fuels retailer,” said Mr. Forsyth.

The nationwide grocery fuel discount programme commences on Monday 30 October 2006.
