Radioworks Grows Audience Share And Listeners In Latest Survey
The new audience survey for radio, released today by Research International, shows an increase in total audience share and cumulative audience for RadioWorks stations nationally.
The number of people listening to RadioWorks stations increased by 18,600 listeners per week, while its competitor lost 19,600 listeners per week.
The all important consumer demographic of 18-49 year olds is a very strong story for RadioWorks, with the company enjoying a 42.9% national share of this key demographic, against the competitor’s 38.8% share.
“This key consumer demographic is where the lion’s share of total advertising revenue sits, and to have RadioWorks win this, at the same time as TV3 achieves record audience results with this demographic paints a very encouraging picture for the CanWest MediaWorks group in New Zealand,” said CanWest MediaWorks CEO, Brent Impey.
The audience growth for RadioWorks has been driven by the extremely successful launch of easy listening format station The Breeze into the highly competitive Auckland market.
“The Breeze has launched with 81,600 listeners helping give it a 4.0% share of the total audience, which is a very strong start for a new station in the Auckland market. That success is due to an incredibly solid team of professionals, both on-air and off-air, who have worked really hard to achieve this excellent result,” said Group Programme Director, Jana Rangooni.
“It’s also very pleasing to see The Breeze take back the number one position for audience share in the Wellington market,” she said.
RadioWorks national music brand The Rock is the number one music station in New Zealand, with the strongest share of audience of any music station in the country.
“This is another outstanding performance from the team at The Rock and reinforces the significance of its Station of the Year (metropolitan) award at this year’s New Zealand Radio Awards,” Ms Rangooni said.
Talk station Radio Live has enjoyed a pleasing survey, with the addition of a further 17,700 more listeners to the station nationwide. The afternoon show featuring John Tamihere and Willy Jackson almost doubled its audience share nationwide.
