Cross-Pollination of NZ and Australian Directors

Cross-Pollination of NZ and Australian Directors

Sydney-based accountant, Andrew Clark, has praised the NZ Business Council for Sustainable Development for joining with CPA Australia in organising New Zealand’s first Business Budget Summit to advise the Government on measures which could be considered for next year’s and future Budgets.

New Zealand’s first pre-Budget business summit will be hosted by Finance Minister Hon Dr Michael Cullen at Parliament House in Wellington on 1st November.

Mr Clark, a senior partner in Clark & Jacobs, said he was looking forward to being an active participant in the Summit and to advance his views about the need for greater cross-pollination of public and private board directors of companies operating in New Zealand and Australia.

He said key issues that needed to be considered by the summit participants included:

- Tax Changes – a revamped taxation system to encourage research & development, increased exports and rewards for profitability.

- Economic Policy – Identify and develop sectors of the economy that have a cost and competitive advantage.

- Skills – Political and business leadership is required to grow internationally attractive companies to help retain talent and skills in New Zealand.

He added that it was a very positive step by the Finance Minister Michael Cullen to host such a forum to demonstrate that the Government was willing to listen to local and neighbouring business representatives for the future wellbeing of the country.
