Super Start to NZB Ready to Run Sale

Super Start to NZB Ready to Run Sale

Day One of the two-day New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale kicked off in fine style at Karaka today, with strong results showing healthy growth on last year's figures.

In spite of a multitude of late withdrawals reducing the catalogue by more than 60 lots, a broad international buying bench competed hotly for the remaining lots on offer, securing 91 of the 167 lots catalogued for today.

The top lot came towards the end of the afternoon, when a grey colt by Galileo out of Centaine mare, Heather, was bought by Hong Kong trainer, Michael Chang for NZ$350,000. The colt is a first foal from the three-time winning mare, and the second highest priced lot ever seen at this Sale. Consignors, Lyndhurst Farm, secured top honours for the day as leading vendors by average with three sold for an average of NZ$172,000. Lyndhurst Farm have a further eight lots catalogued for sale tomorrow.

The Select and General distinction previously seen at this Sale was abandoned this year in favour of offering all horses together in a single session across the two days. The average at the end of Day One was NZ$47,025, up from a final average of NZ$43,456 last year, with the clearance rate a very pleasing 72%, up from a final clearance rate of 63% last year.

Buyers from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Australia were dominant throughout, with Stephen Grey, Manfred Man, Willie Leung, David Hill, Peter Moody, Don Campbell and Michael Clements among those featuring prominently on the results sheets at the end of the first day.
