Consumer wine tasting untainted
Consumer’s latest taste test of sparkling wines has no chance of being influenced by winemakers.
“Every wine included in our latest tasting was anonymously bought from retailers, as are all our test goods”, says Belinda Allan of Consumers’ Institute. “We pay the going retail price and get goods off the shelves, the same as all other customers. The recent Cuisine test shows the risks of letting manufacturers influence tastings by selecting and submitting samples.”
Results of the Consumer tasting appear in the December issue of Consumer magazine and on consumer.org.nz. They show there are some real bargains available. Of the 53 wines tasted, 12 were rated as four-star bubbles. The prices paid for the four-star wines ranged from $57 to just $11.90.
