The Crossings Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2005 named in Wine Enthusiast Magazine Top 100 Wines of the Year
Wine Enthusiast Magazine, one of the world’s most respected and quoted publications in the field of wine and spirits, has named The Crossings Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2005 among the Top 100 Wines of 2006 in its December 31st “Best of Year” issue, available this week.
Carefully selected by the editors of Wine Enthusiast Magazine, the annual “Best of Year” selections are drawn from the nearly 10,000 wines tasted over the course of 2006. Named this year are wines from 13 different countries. “More and more countries are making top-flight wines, and the 2006 list reflects the great improvements in winemaking that we’re seeing around the world,” said Wine Enthusiast Magazine Tasting Director and Senior Editor, Joe Czerwinski.
Multiple factors, obviously focused on quality, style and varietal character, are considered when selecting wines for this prestigious list. The Top 100 Wines of 2006 include 44 from Europe and 56 New World wines, with New Zealand taking 3 Top 100 places.
The Crossings is one of a small group of pioneering wineries in the Awatere Valley in Marlborough. Three vineyards, spanning a total of 138 hectares, at varying altitudes, with differing climates and soils, provide a broad stylistic spectrum from which to craft its outstanding Sauvignon Blanc.
Winemaker, Matt Mitchell was very happy to get the news. “The Awatere Valley is producing outstanding grapes and our work in the winery is limited to simply protecting the quality of each parcel of fruit and conveying all those incredible flavours into the finished wine.”
