25-Year-Old In Whangarei Wins $250,000

25-Year-Old In Whangarei Wins $250,000 On Royal Flush Instant Kiwi

A 25-year-old Whangarei woman is feeling flush after winning $250,000 on a Royal Flush Instant Kiwi ticket this Christmas weekend, says NZ Lotteries Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, bought the ticket on the Friday before Christmas and scratched the ticket at home with some friends.

"I was scratching the lines one by one and got right to the end before checking back to the third line which had a $250,000 prize.

"I went really quiet and my friend asked me if I was alright as I think I had almost stopped breathing.

"I just started screaming and showed her the ticket, and then she started screaming too! Another friend came into the room and he started screaming and before long we were all out on the road screaming and jumping up and down."

"The next day I went into the Corner Cardz and Magz shop in Whangarei to have the ticket checked and when the Lotto lady put the ticket through the machine and saw what I had won, she came round the counter and hugged me, says the winner.

Owner of the Corner Cardz and Magz store, Bobby Jo, was working when the winner came in to check the ticket.

"I put the ticket through the machine and my eyes popped out of my head. We're all so happy for her.

"We have some really loyal customers and people have been coming in to the store and saying how pleased they are for her," adds Bobby Jo.

"It's the best thing that's ever happened in my life. I'm getting married next year and we've just bought a house so it couldn't have come at a better time," says the winner.

"This Christmas has been the best one I've ever had. We've just had friends and family round and have been celebrating since I found out I won."
