Hardworking Wanganui Family's $7.8 Million Win
Hardworking Wanganui Family's $7.8 Million Lotto Powerball Win Won't Change Them
A Wanganui family are still in a daze after discovering they have won more than $7.8 million on Lotto Powerball on the weekend, says NZ Lotteries Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.
"We only found out this morning that we had won, when we opened the local paper and saw the retailers we had bought our ticket from on the front page," says one of the winners, who wishes to remain anonymous.
The winner checked the Powerball number first, which appeared on their ticket just once, and then couldn't believe her eyes when the other six numbers, matched the winning ones she had written down.
"We checked it so many times, it doesn't quite seem real."
"We are a very hardworking family, my husband and I both work, and none of that is going to change," the winners say.
"It will mean a better life for our family, but who we are, and how we live our lives won't change."
The winning Powerball ticket was purchased at Aramaho Mags & Lotto, in Wanganui and is worth a total of $7,812,344, with $7,312,344 from winning Powerball First Division and a further $500,000 from also winning Lotto First Division.
This is the 12th largest individual Lotto Powerball prize won in NZ Lotteries' history and the second largest Lotto Powerball prize to be won in Wanganui. The largest was sold by Trafalgar Lotto in 2003, and was worth $9.8 million.
