Developing Auckland Into a Top World City

Prime Minister’s State of the Nation Address: “A first step … let’s ensure the required bold action steps quickly follow.”

“Confirming the development of Auckland as a world class international city as a critical goal for New Zealand’s overall growth and wellbeing is an encouraging message business wanted to hear,” said Auckland Chamber of Commerce CEO, Michael Barnett.

Commenting on the Prime Minister’s State of the Nation Address to Parliament, Mr Barnett said that especially welcome was the acknowledgement of the importance of strengthening the region’s governance.

“What is needed now is the detail supported by a bold, decisive action plan.”

The strong focus on fixing Auckland transport and energy infrastructure is a direct message to Auckland’s local authorities to take the urgent action steps required to ensure the projects are implemented efficiently and without delay.

In the Auckland Metro Project action plan prepared by the region last year, Government has a ready-made package of programmes for launching a campaign to catapult Auckland into a world-class of its own, noted Mr Barnett.
