Internal comm's to be recognised in PR award

News release
15 February 2007

The Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ) has included a new internal communications category in its industry awards.

According to research that has been carried out by PRINZ, nearly 50% of public relations practitioners in New Zealand work on internal (employee) communications.

PRINZ is now calling for entries for the awards, which will be announced in May. The other categories in the awards include Corporate, Financial, Marketing, Government, Sustained (a long term project over more than 12 months), Not-for-profit and Pro-bono (projects carried out on a voluntary basis). An award is given to the best young practitioner, under 25, while the Supreme Award is chosen from among all senior category winners, and is judged by an independent panel that includes non-industry members.

New Zealand Rugby Union Communications Manager Brian Finn won the 2006 Supreme Award with a communications plan to engage stakeholders, government and the New Zealand public in New Zealand's bid to host the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The PRINZ awards have recognised outstanding public relations and communications projects in New Zealand since 1974. PRINZ Executive Director, Paul Dryden, says "we are pleased to provide this opportunity for our members to be recognised for all their hard work and to also promote the good work that is being done by PR practitioners in this country."

All PRINZ members are eligible to enter the awards and entry forms are available on the PRINZ website (www.prinz.org.nz) or by contacting the PRINZ office (09 358 9808). Final date for entries is Monday 2 April and the winners will be announced at the Public Relations Industry National Conference in Auckland on 25 May.
