The Volvo XC90 V8 power under the bonnet puts added performance on the tarmac – it also sharpens Volvo’s competitive edge in the tough premium SUV segment.

Volvo's V8 package feels immensely solid. Valued for its V8 power and performance, Volvo XC90 V8 is in the same class as the very best in the segment. What’s more, Volvo is sure that a large proportion of potential customers will appreciate the fact that the XC90 V8 combines power and driveability with high safety and good environmental properties.

Powertrain with compact V8 and technological breakthrough
The attractive feature of the new Volvo XC90 V8 is certainly the powertrain. The engine combines with a new six-speed automatic transmission and the world’s first system for All Wheel Drive with Instant Traction, which gives enhanced grip on poor surfaces.
Thanks to intelligent engineering, the engine is the most compact V8 on the market – making it possible to install the new engine transversely within the existing crumple zones.

From the environmental viewpoint, this is the first petrol V8 that meets the American ULEV II emissions regulations.

Spotlight on driving characteristics and performance
The excellent safety and environmental properties add a healthy measure of extra spice to a V8 market where buyers often base their choices on emotional arguments such as driving pleasure, power – and even engine sound.
In the world of V8 development, engine sound is a science in its own right. A traditional American V8 has a throaty offbeat growl, while Europeans favour a slightly smoother, sportier rumble.
Volvo's V8 will attract buyers. That classical V8 throb is there, but it’s overlaid with a more sophisticated note that clearly announces that this is a European premium SUV.

Award-winning sales success
The Volvo XC90 has been an enormous sales success for Volvo Cars world wide. The original production volume of 50,000 cars a year has been successively increased, and since mid-2004 annual XC90 production in the company’s Torslanda factory in Sweden has been raised to 90,000.
What is more, the Volvo XC90 has received more international awards in a shorter period of time than any other Volvo.
When Volvo introduced the Volvo XC90 in 2002 (2003 in New Zealand), Volvo was aware that it had designed and engineered the next-generation SUV. The combination of a compact SUV with seven seats, a high level of safety, the driving properties of a passenger-car, and competitive environmental properties, has made the Volvo XC90 one of the automotive world’s most highly acclaimed models.

New Zealand's model range
The XC90 consists of a two-model range in New Zealand for 2007:
XC90 D5 AWD - $99,990
XC90 V8 AWD - $124,990

All XC90 model variants are offered standard with seven seats, leather interior and a long list of dynamic and occupant protection safety features including.-

Roll stability control, dynamic stability and traction control, electronic brake assist, anti-lock braking, side impact protection system, whiplash protection system, 6 airbags, three points seat belts on all seats and child booster safety seating.

The front seats have memory controls for the electric adjustment. The centre row of seats can be split 40:20:40. There is an auto dimming rear vision mirror, cruise control and a trip meter.

Climate control air conditioning includes pollen and dust filters and outlets on the B and C pillars. The CD sound system is MP3 compatible and has steering wheel mounted main controls.

The XC90 V8 sits on 18 inch alloy wheels and has a chrome grille, silver roof rails and rear spoiler. There are front fog lights, headlight washers, heated and electrically adjustable door mirrors and colour co-ordinated wheel arches.

The V8 model also gets heated front seats and a 12 speaker sound system.

An alarm is standard, linked to the remote control central locking and immobiliser. The XC90 V8 comes with a three years unlimited kilometres warranty, seven year anti corrosion warranty and three year roadside assistance.
