There's just a month left to register via the website at the early bird rate of $75. (Full price is $100).

Speakers at the day-long conference include ACP's Kirsty Cameron, Julian Andrews from Jones Publishing, David Cohen, Gordon McLauchlan, Sunday Star-Times editor Cate Brett, North and South editor Robyn Langwell and University of Canterbury's Jim Tully.

Freelancers, editors who commission freelancers, and others with an interest in freelancing are welcome to attend. More details below: The second national conference for New Zealand freelancers will be held Wednesday 2 May and Thursday 3 May in Auckland.

Keynote speakers at the Bank of New Zealand Freelance 2007 Conference will be Kirsty Cameron, editorial director of women's lifestyle titles at ACP Magazines, Kate Coughlan, editor and publisher of NZ Life and Leisure; Julian Andrews, a director of Jones Publishing and John Gardner, an assistant editor at the New Zealand Herald.

On the reporting bench will be David Cohen, a successful freelancer here and overseas; and Karen Holdom, an Auckland-based freelance writer specialising in health.

Afternoon sessions will address topics such as making the most of working from home, marketing yourself via the net and how to branch out into the publishing world.

In the final session of the day, senior freelancer Amanda Cropp will lead a debate on ethics and freelancing with panelists Robyn Langwell, North and South editor, Cate Brett, editor of the Sunday Star Times and Jim Tully from the University of Canterbury.

The conference website, sponsored by TelstraClear, is online at www.freelance2007.co.nz. Registrations, which can be made online, cost $75 for 'early birds' who register and pay between 1 Feb until 31 March and $100 for registrations after 1 April. Based on the number of registrations to date and last year's experience, places are likely to fill fast.
