First Informal Meeting For Canterbury Software

Once a month the Canterbury Software Cluster will be hosting an informal networking get together for members and others in the wider community interested in meeting up with like minded people in the technology sector. Our first session will be held on 26th March at the Canterbury Innovation Incubator, 200 Armagh Street, starting at 5.30pm.

Two guest speakers will give short presentations followed by a brief opportunity for discussion and questions. Members can choose to listen to either speaker at the event, and then join everyone for an enjoyable networking session with free pizza and drinks available.

Guest speakers:
Glynn Foster, an Irishman, currently living in Christchurch, has been working for Sun Microsystems for the last 6+ years as part of the team in Dublin. Glynn has been actively involved in the GNOME project, and among his other responsibilities, is currently acting as a board director of the GNOME Foundation. Glynn is also involved in the OpenSolaris project, maintains Planet OpenSolaris, writes the weekly summaries, and is running for the OpenSolaris governing board this year.

Glynn will be talking at a couple of our events this year mainly focussing on open source initiatives and his work with Sun Microsystems.

Phil Holliday needs no introduction to the Christchurch HiTech community. He landed in NZ in 1990, spent the next 10 years building Holliday Group, an electronics and mobile software company which was then sold to iTouch PLC in the UK, staying on as MD until the end of 2003. Phil then left and set up Holliday Corporation (HCL) with Dave Tinkler. HCL is an angel investment company specializing in HiTech companies, and also provides a sleeves rolled up approach to management consultancy and training.

Phil specialises in governance and is currently a director of 8 companies. In particular HCL worked with the Cii to start Powerhouse, the Christchurch Angel investment group of which Phil is the Chairman.
Phil will talk about “What investors expect and want from a business”.
